The Grateful Dead played a number of shows around Oklahoma, including a memorable one on October 11, 1977. They also rocked two back-to-back shows at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds Arena on October 18 and 19, 1973, just down I-35 from Norman and the University of Oklahoma. These concerts featured their famous "Dark Star" jam and the debut of the "Mind Left Body Jam". The October show in Norman featured an all time Franklins Tower, that has kept the message boards buzzing for years. This was a period of heightened cultural exchange between countercultural music scenes and university students, fostering a sense of community among Deadheads in the state and region.
