University of Kansas x Grateful Dead
Officially licensed by the University of Kansas and the Grateful Dead - available exclusively through Class Trip. The Grateful Dead never actually made it to Allen Fieldhouse, but Kansas still got a taste of the Dead when they rolled into Wichita on November 17, 1972, for a show at Century II Convention Center. Instead of Rock Chalk chants, the venue echoed with Jerry’s guitar and a setlist packed with gems like Bertha and Truckin’. While KU never officially hosted the Dead, their music still found plenty of fans among Jayhawks looking for something outside the usual game-day traditions. That Wichita show—later released as Dave’s Picks Volume 11—captured the band at their early ‘70s peak, proving that even in the heart of Kansas, the Dead could turn any space into their own kind of cosmic arena. Whether you were a die-hard Deadhead or just a curious local, that night in Wichita was one for the books.
