While we know a certain band may dominate the culture of the Green Mountain State, the Grateful Dead’s connection to Vermont is both historic and heartfelt. Their first performance in the state was on May 6, 1978, at the University of Vermont’s Patrick Gymnasium in Burlington. This show featured standout renditions of “Terrapin Station” and “Sugar Magnolia,” leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.  The band returned to Patrick Gymnasium on April 13, 1983, delivering a memorable set that included “Scarlet Begonias” transitioning into “Fire on the Mountain,” and concluding with an encore of “Touch of Grey.”  Beyond the campus, the Dead played two significant shows at Franklin County Airport Field in Highgate, Vermont, on July 13, 1994, and June 15, 1995. These concerts drew massive crowds, with the 1995 show marking the beginning of the band’s final tour.  This collection pays homage to the enduring bond between the Grateful Dead and the University of Vermont community. Featuring one-of-a-kind graphics and officially licensed apparel, it’s a tribute to the timeless groove that continues to resonate in Burlington and beyond.
