Georgia x Grateful Dawgs Tee
Officially licensed by the University of Georgia and Grateful Dead. Calling all Grateful Dawgs!
The Grateful Dead’s influence at the University of Georgia is significant. Athens is a "music town" and the Dead's ethos of improvisation and community connected with the university's vibrant music scene, which was already burgeoning with acts like R.E.M. and The B-52's. The Dead’s presence in Athens not only resonated with the countercultural movements of the time but also aligned with the city’s rich musical heritage. Their concerts brought together students, local Deadheads, and musicians, creating a unique fusion of school pride and countercultural energy. Although the Dead never played at UGA, they played down the road in Atlanta a total of 37 times. Much like the free-spirited nature of Athens’ music scene, the Grateful Dead fostered a sense of exploration and creativity, leaving a lasting impact on the university’s cultural life.
