The Grateful Dead’s connection to Utah runs deeper than most realize. Their first show in the state was on April 12, 1969, at the University of Utah’s Student Union Ballroom in Salt Lake City . This performance marked the beginning of a lasting relationship with the region. Over the years, the Dead returned to Utah multiple times, including notable performances at the Salt Palace in 1973 and 1981, and a memorable three-night run at the Delta Center in 1995 .
