Vegas might be known for its flash, but when the Grateful Dead rolled through, it brought a different kind of magic—something looser, louder, and a whole lot more real. Their first show in town was at the Ice Palace in 1969, a stripped-down skate rink gig that set the tone. The crowd was small, the sound was rough, and the spark was undeniable. Fast forward to the Aladdin Theater in the ‘80s, where things got tighter, louder, and a little more cosmic. Then came the Sam Boyd Stadium shows in the ’90s, massive, sun-drenched singalongs in the middle of the desert, complete with parades of Deadheads filling every hotel and lot within miles. Those Vegas runs were the stuff of lore: heat waves, deep cuts, and that unmistakable feeling that anything could happen...and it usually did. Now, Dead & Company’s Sphere residency is writing the next chapter, bringing the music into a whole new dimension—but that same energy still pulses through the city. The UNLV x Grateful Dead collection is a tribute to the long, strange trip through Las Vegas. Built for the students who’ve kept the vibe alive on campus, the fans who danced through the dust at Sam Boyd, and the next wave of heads joining the tribe.
