The intimate venue made for a powerful night, with Truckin’, Uncle John’s Band, and rock ‘n’ roll staples like Johnny B. Goode and Good Lovin’ keeping the place buzzing. MSU students, already tuned into the counterculture movement, embraced the Dead’s spirit of improvisation and community. The band’s frequent Midwest stops—including Detroit and Chicago—helped solidify a growing Deadhead scene in the region. That night at Jenison wasn’t just a concert; it was a moment where music, movement, and college life collided, helping spread the Dead’s ethos across the Midwest.
