Officially licensed by Duke University and Grateful Dead - available exclusively through Class Trip.
Duke University and the Grateful Dead might seem like an odd match—one’s all about academic prestige and basketball dominance, the other… not so much. But on April 12, 1978, Cameron Indoor Stadium swapped jump shots for jam sessions as the Dead rolled into Durham. The band delivered a high-energy set that turned one of college basketball’s most hallowed arenas into a swirling sea of sound. Tie-dye took over Cameron, and students looking for something beyond the usual Duke experience got a four-hour spectacle—Jerry windmilling his arms, the band’s chef banging on pots and pans. The show, later released as Duke ’78, proved that the right music can break down any barrier. Between 1971 and 1982, the Dead played Duke five times—the same number of natty’s the Blue Devils have taken home.
