The Grateful Dead's connection to the University of Colorado Boulder, particularly through multiple performances at the legendary Folsom Field, highlights the intersection of music and campus culture. A legendary show on September 3rd, 1972 at Folsom Field, kicking off the Fall Semester, even gave students the ability to include tickets in their welcome registration packets. Their renowned 1980 and 1982 performances in particular, became legendary moments on campus and in Dead lore.

Much like CU Boulder's commitment to environmentalism and being in the outdoors with the backdrop of the Flatirons, the Grateful Dead’s music encouraged a free-spirited, communal atmosphere. The Dead tradition of rocking Folsom Field still continues today, with a number of shows from Dead and Co, and other iterations of the iconic group creating memories for students and Rocky Mountain Deadheads.
